I Voted

I voted because children should not be separated from their parents.

I voted because the elderly should have the resources they need to be cared for - not stripped away.

I voted because my loved ones deserve to have their marriages recognized.

I voted because LBGTQ+ children should not fear being in school. Because their lives should not end at the hands of hate.

I voted because the LBGTQ+ community should not live in fear.

I voted because EVERYONE, regardless of gender, race, or identity, deserves the right to healthcare.

I voted because BLACK LIVES MATTER.

I voted to protect BIPOC, underrepresented, marginalized, and underserved individuals & communities.

I voted for women’s rights.

I voted because women fought for my right to do so. Not voting dishonors their work & memory.

I voted because I take part in dismantling the structural racism our society was built on.

I voted because I believe in science.

I voted because I won’t sit idly by, in the comfort of my own privilege, tuning out what is going on in the world. I sit with the discomfort, sadness, and frustration. I learn from it, strive to be a better ally, and make changes in myself, my life, and the different communities I serve.

We are witnessing the fruits of self centeredness and now, more than ever, we MUST care for each other.

Voting is a good place to start. The real work comes next.
